HAMAMATSU AND CRANES



Antique Japanese six panel folding screen (byōbu) in sumi, colors and flecks of gold leaf (sunago) on gold leaf applied paper, mounted on wooden core frames with paper hinges, textile border and lacquered molding, depicting a landscape with pines (matsu) growing along sandbars (hama), the scene framed by banks of shimmering clouds and punctuated by flocks of cranes.
