Antique Japanese screen painting (byōbu) in sumi, colors and flecks of gold leaf (sunago) on gold leaf (kinpaku) applied paper, depicting a Chinese scholars seated about a table by a lake, engaged in writing and painting, two of the four scholarly accomplishments (kinki shoga), while nearby a beautiful woman, with a baby in her arms and a child at her side, stands watching them, and a third child plays in a punt, laden with books and a wine flask (hyotan), pulled up along the shoreline.
